Welcome to West Cork Writers
A group of creative writers living – and writing – in West Cork
West Cork writers invite anyone interested in practicing story telling skills to come and join us. We meet in The West Cork Arts Centre, Skibbereen, by their kind permission for which we are most grateful. The sessions last between one and two hours, and writers read, about 500 words of what they have written for the occasion. It is a very friendly environment, not threatening, and most writers find it rewarding. If nothing else, it encourages the writer in you, to bring thoughts into print. Members who wish can publish their work on this web site.
Next meeting:The Group will go into hibernation until April 2015, we will hope to see you then. Good notice will be given to you, and we might change our session to Saturday afternoon. If any member wants to place their material on this site, please use contact the email address, and we will post it for you.
New writers are welcome. Please contact us if you will attend.
How the session works
A writer is invited to read their work. Normally, 500 words from a short story, or a excerpt from a book in progress, or a poem, or even just some item they want to share. A general discussion follows, with gentle criticism and suggestions to improve the piece or the concept.
The challenge is a prompt; its intention is to help unblock a writer and to create a story, often of some incident forgotten by the writer.
This week’s challenge is: “One of us will be right”
